HP 5/5M/5N MAINTENANCE KIT INSTRUCTIONS
***** WARNING *****
Turn the printer off, unplug it. And allow it to sit for 30 minutes before performing user
maintenance procedures
The following parts are included in this maintenance kit
1 RG5-0879 Fusing Assembly
1 RF5-0349 Transfer Roller
1 RB1-7911 Main Pickup Roller
1 RB1-2205 Tray 1 Pickup Roller
1 RB1-7983 Lower Cassette Pickup Roller
1 RF5-0343 Separation Pad
Fuser Installation
1 Remove the paper tray and toner cartridge from the printer.
2 Open the rear door and unfasten the screws from the fuser and pull out by grabing it by its left and right metal tabs lift
slightly and pull the fuser straight out of the printer.
3 Place the new fuser into the printer and push it in until the screwholes line up with those in the base.
4 Rescure the head screws and close the rear cover.
Transfer Roller Replacement
1 Turn the printer around so the front is facing you.
2 Open the top cover and locate the transfer roller.
3 Using a flathead screwdriver or the green plastic loop (located on the front inside edge of the upper cover, lift the transfer
roller shaft between the blue gear and the white plastic bushing.
4 Lift and remove the transfer roller from the printer
5 Insert the right side of the new transfer roller first, then press down on the left side until it snaps into place.
6 Replace the green plastic loop if it was used in step 3
Tray 1 Pickup Roller and Separation Pad Replacement
1 Open Tray 1 and locate the tray 1 pickup roller, remove it by pinching the middle clip and pulling it out of the printer.
2 Using a flathead screwdriver, gently pry up on the silver edge of the separation pad and remove it.
3 Snap the new separation pad into place. (The silver edge faces the front of the printer)
4 Slide the new manual feed pickup roller onto the shaft until it snaps into place. It may be necessary to turn the roller while
doing this.
Main Pickup Roller Replacement
1 Turn the printer onto its left side
2 Locate the main pickup roller on the underside of the printer. Pinch the clip on the pickup roller and remove it from the
shaft.
3 Slide the new main pickup roller onto the shaft until it snaps into place. It may be necessary to turn the roller while doing
this.
4 Return the printer to the upright position
Optional Lower Tray Pickup Roller Replacement
1 Separate the optional lower tray from the printer
2 Pinch the release clip on the pickup roller and pull the roller from the shaft.
3 Slide the new pickup roller onto the shaft until it snaps into place. It may be necessary to turn the roller while doing this.
4 Replace the paper tray and the toner cartridge.
Resetting the Maintenance Counter
1 Hold down the Item- and Value- Keys while turning the printer on.
2 Wait until reset maintenance count displays and then release both keys
