2.5.0 UPDATE
NEW FEATURES & DESCRIPTIONS
HDC-500/HDC-1000/DMIX-300
ENHANCED VBR COMPATIBILITY
Although all CORTEX players can play VBR (Variable Bit Rate)
mp3 type files, because of the nature of the VBR encoding
process, some VBR’s could not be accurately played by the
CORTEX player. With this update we have enhanced VBR compat-
ibility by adding a VBR indexing feature to the CORTEX,
indexing a VBR means the unit will pre-scan the audio file before
playing it, this process only happens one time and saves this infor-
mation to the drive, so from then on every time you recall that
particular audio file the CORTEX player does not need to verify
again. This Feature can be turned on or off in the settings menu.
ON-THE-GO PLAYLIST
The playlist on the go gives you the ability to create a playlist as
you choose songs that can be recalled later by the CORTEX
PLAYER.
HOW TO USE ON-THE-GO PLAYLISTS
When you browse through the songs in SEARCH mode, you can
press SHIFT+ENTER. In this case the corresponding song will be
added to the end of “On-The-Go” playlist. After a song is added
into playlist, the unit will show a message “The song was success-
fully added into On-The-Go playlist. In case an “On-The-Go”
playlist does not exists on the file system, it will be automatically
created by the CORTEX PLAYER when you add the first song. The
“On-The-Go” playlist will be saved to MSD to “/pl./On-The-
Go.m3u” path, you can access the saved “on-the-go” playlist from
“playlists” menu of the unit in the same way as you do regular
playlists that are supported by the CORTEX PLAYER This playlist is
displayed as “On-The-Go” in “playlists” menu.
To delete an “On-The-Go” playlist simply press SHIFT+ENTER
from “Playlists” menu, and the playlist will be completely deleted
erasing the file “On-The-Go.m3u” from the disk. After the playlist
is deleted, the unit will show a message “On-The-Go playlist was
successfully deleted”.
You can also delete any item from “On-The-Go” playlist by press-
ing SHIFT+ENTER inside of it. When the last song was deleted
from this playlist, the playlist file will be erased from the disk.
“On-The-Go” playlist is supported on NTFS drives.
50% PITCH
You can now choose between either 4, 8, 16, 24 and 50% pitch
range.
FRENCH KEYBOARD SUPPORT
You now have French AZERTY keyboard support. which can be
turned on or off in the settings menu.
ID3 TAG BPM READER
The CORTEX PLAYER can now read BPM value off of the ID3 tag
of your audio files . you can also search by BPM.
if there is no BPM info present the CORTEX player will default to
the pitch percent display. You can turn this feature on and off in
the settings menu.
PITCH FADER/VOLUME CONTROL
The PITCH FADER can now be used as a volume control for club
installations which require volume control at the CORTEX player
without a mixer near it. This feature was designed primarily for
the HDC-500 but since the three players HDC-500, HDC-1000
and the DMIX-300 share the same operating systems all the play-
ers have this feature. You can easily engage this feature in the
settings menu where you will see an option that says PITCH SLIDER,
setting this option to (vol) will engage the volume control and
allow you to set the units volume from 100% which will be equal
to all the way to the left (HDC-500) or all the way up (HDC-1000
and DMIX-300) 1% volume which will be equal to all the way
right (HDC-500) or all the way down (HDC-1000 and DMIX-300).
To disengage this feature simply choose either ON or OFF in this
setting, you can also turn the PITCH on and off by pressing both
pitch bend buttons just like the previous firmware updates.
AUTO PLAY
Auto play when activated allows you to simply insert a USB key
(or any mass storage device) into the CORTEX player without
having to verify it or index it at all. The Cortex player will then
search for the first available song on the mass storage device and
start playing it upon start up. this feature was implemented for in
store display situations and is not recommended for the average
user.
As well as adding these new features there have been enhance-
ments made to the following functions:
- Improved File browser search
- Sample rate incompatibility warning
- Display Of Special Characters
- Improved CUE stuttering
- Improved scratch mode tracking
- Enhanced file type compatibility
All these features and enhancements combined are sure to make
your using the CORTEX much easier and quicker allowing you to
concentrate on music and not having to worry about the
technology.
